In December, we participated in the Vilonia Christmas Parade. We added lights to the trailer and sang Christmas carols. Mr. Musselman drove for us in the parade, thank you.
We also volunteered to lay christmas wreaths at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. We invited the Webelos from the Pack to come with us.
For the fall, backpacking trip the troop went to Devil’s Den State Park and hiked the Butterfield Trail. We had Mr. Hobby, Mr. Power, and Alex as leaders. We had a great time hiking the historic stage coach route, you can still see the path.
The coyotes/wolves/keep you up all night critters were very active Saturday night, and I thought they might come visit us, but they didn’t.
It is a nice loop backpacking trail, they say it is 12-13 miles long, I think it is 15.
The Troop attended the Council Stemoree this October. We had Jamboree on the Air, Rockets, Shooting Sports, and Robotics. We stayed in the summer camp tents, which was nice, once the spiders were removed. Everybody made a rocket and shot them up into the sky, except one which was caught by a tree. We even did some chemistry (see photo.)
According to the records at the Scout Office, this is our 25th year as a Troop in Vilonia, Arkansas. It was founded on May 1, 1991 by the Vilonia Schools. We have been chartered with the Vilonia United Methodist Church since 2004. We have been active in the Vilonia Community, the Foothills District and Quapaw Area Council for the past 25 years.
The troop had its Summertime Court of Honor Monday night. We had several scouts get merit badge’s at summer camp this year. We had 2 scouts earning the Scout Rank, one scout earned his First Class rank, and two scouts earned their Star rank. We also had a National Jamboree presentation given by Mr. Hubbard. For more information about Jamboree see:

The Troop had their End of Summer Lock-In at the Church, last Friday night. The Scouts got in the van, and we drove to the Little Rock Climbing Center, where we climbed for 2 hours. We stopped at Wendy’s to get a late night snack, and then we returned to the church and stay up till dawn playing board games, watching movies, and playing video games.
We had two groups of scouts go to summer camps this year. One group went to Camp Rockefeller in Arkansas and the other group went to S-F in Missouri. All the scouts had a great time!
The Troop attended the Foothills Spring Camporee in April. The theme was Mountain Men Rendezvous We had a great time using the old time 2 man saw, throwing tomahawks, and having a log pull. We even made peach cobbler, that was very good.
The Troop went backpacking on the Buffalo River Trail over Spring Break. For some it was their first time ever on a backpacking trip. They learned to use the backpacking stove’s and how to prepare meals. On the first night we had frost. Everybody learned a lot about how to carry your pack and what to bring.
We have a added links to Philmont Backpacking Trail Menu in the Resources area. This is a excellent tool to help you figure out your food to take on trips and hikes.
We have also added a link to Charlie Williams website, about Hiking in the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains. The website gives you descriptions and maps of the trails in our state. Charlie is a contributor to Backpacker magazine, and has hike most of the state.
We have also added this year summer camp information about classes and schedule.
