The Troop went to Petit Jean State Park for their Winter Campout. We had excellent weather for it with warm sunny days, and nice nights. We had a cracker barrel Friday night, and a hike after breakfast on Saturday. Saturday afternoon we worked on advancement requirements, played chess, and hanged out in hammocks. We had two of the Webelos II’s to hike with us Saturday, and they both did very well.
We might go back every Winter Campout to Petit Jean, it has a very nice Group Camp Area. Here is a picture from the hike.
The Troop achieved the Journey to Excellence Gold level this year. Journey to Excellence is the BSA’s council performance recognition program designed to encourage and reward success and measure the performance of our units, districts, and councils. It measures unit budget, camping nights, unit retention, and service projects, and trained leaders.
The troop went and hiked at Mt Nebo State Park hike on Saturday, November 14. We meet at the VUMC at 9am, and we hiked the Bench and Rim trails at Mt. Nebo. We got back at 5pm, after we stopped at McDonald’s in Dardenelle.
Instructions for the hike: If your scout wants to bring his trekking backpack to break it in, make sure they put some clothes, sleeping bag and pad, and water in it. It needs to weight about 25% of their weight. If they just want to hike than, just a daypack is fine. Bring your lunch and water. Remember to dress in layers, and wear your class B troop t-shirts.
The Pack invited the Troop to the Pack 444 Fall Family Campout, it was November 6, 7, and 8. The Troop entertained and taught the Cub Scouts scout craft skills that the cubs need for their ranks. We also helped in the flag retirement ceremony and attended the fire all night.
The Fall Camporee will be Oct. 9-11 at JFK park in Heber Springs. We will meet at the church Friday at 5pm and load the trailer. We will leave when the trailer is loaded. We should get back to the church around 11 or 12 on Sunday, after the trailer is unloaded the scouts can leave. The cost is $20 for food and registration. The list of things to bring to a campout is on pg. 292 in the Scout handbook.
ALL Scouts must have a signed Permission Slip to attend.
The troop will be switching to ScoutBook. It is the new official computer app from the Boy Scouts of America. It will track Service hours, Camping Log, Advancement, Training, and will be easy to view where your scout has to do, to achieve his next rank. For more information contact the Troop.

The Troop went to Camp Rockefeller at Gus Blass Scout Reservation this summer. We had fun learning Scout skills and going to merit badge classes. The boys had the opportunity to ear merit badges like shotgun shooting and sailing, which you can only earn at a BSA sponsored event.
The Senior Patrol Leader volunteered to help lead the closing campfire and he did an awesome job. We had some very good meals, learned some new songs and skits, and the boys had a great time.
Look out for the Moose full of Juice! If you don’t know what this means, as a scout who attended camp.
We have seven members of the Troop volunteered to work in the Service Patrol at Daycamp this summer. They are camping at the Daycamp, and learning Scoutcraft after the Cub Scouts leave for the day. Thank you Mr. Bob and Mr. Dale for staying with them all week.
This is a quote from the Quapaw Scouter July/August Edition 2015:
.” We also want to give an extra thank you to our Camp Director, Amanda Eggert, our Webelos Program Director Aaron Fortner, Cub Scout Program Director Mellissa Moix, and our awesome service patrol from Troop 444.”
You all did a awesome job representing your troop.
Here is the new design for the 2015 Troop t-shirt. They are $12 if you only want one and $20 if you want both colors. If you would like a long sleeve gray t-shirt it will be $15. We will take the money next Monday.
